This is my first fiction story, please feel free to send your thoughts. On a 2016 summer sunset, two friends (Rani Jadedly and L.C. Bellelk) share a sunset having a deep conversation about life.

Rani and L.C. were just getting to know each other, they had met in gym class in the fall. Rani had just graduated high school and was planning to head to University of Florida in the fall of 2016. L.C. was a rising sophomore but looked up to Rani a lot. The two spent a lot of time together (it was the connection). To the point where L.C. almost considered Rani a family member.

That night the two sat on the roof of a building overlooking the King and Queen towers of Sandy Springs, Georgia watching the sunset. “What are you going to study in college?” L.C. asked. “I’m planning to study theater to become the first female director in Hollywood.” Rani replied. L.C. was impressed, she thought Rani was going to pursue a career in literature since Rani read a lot. “I feel uncertain about this step in my life, what if people don’t like me.” Rani stated.

“Rani, you care too much about what people think. If you live your life like that you’ll never be happy.” L.C. replied. “Also people in the theater business are usually very eccentric, you’d fit right in. It’s okay to be different.” she added. Rani thought about how her differences made her an outcast for the majority of her life. It was so hard to think about how it’s made her life better.

To change the subject, Rani focused on the sunset falling over the towers. “There’s no where I’d rather be than right here right now in Sandy Springs. This has to be the most beautiful spot in the world.” Rani said with tears in her eyes. L.C. moved her hand towards Rani’s and grasped it. L.C. made a bold statement, “This view makes me think we both can conquer the world.” The two stare off into the sunset prepared to take on the world with confidence.

To be continued…
