Forrest Gump and the Impact of a Life

I haven’t written in a while and was rewatching an old classic movie this Friday after my comp's exam. I really thought this one was going to be impactful as both a film and an article. Put on your running shoes because we’re taking a trip to Greenbow, Alabama with Forrest Gump (1994).

In the early 1940s, Forrest Gump is a young boy with both a mental and physical disability. His IQ is below average, and he wears metal braces around his legs. Nevertheless, his mom believes he will get the same life opportunities as any other kid in the world. Forrest is sent to a normal elementary school and on the first day meets, Jenny Curran. He immediately falls in love with her and the two become friends when Forrest is outcasted by the other children. Here Jenny becoming friends with Forrest made a difference in his life, because he had found acceptance from another person other than his mother (Zemeckis, 1994).

When Forrest becomes a young adult, he and Jenny remain friends but seem to go on separate paths. Jenny is a victim of child sexual abuse and was molested by her father when she was a young child. This trauma damages her and twists her perception of healthy relationships. “Child victims of…
