She’s a musician, a makeup artist, a singer, an entertainer, a humanitarian, an activist, and an inspiration. I was listening to Lady Gaga’s new album, Chromatica, and started to realize how long I have been listening to the popular culture icon. I was 11 year old sixth grader who was in the process of discovering who she was and then now I’m this culturally diverse who has survived a lot of things but is planning on working with many Lady Gaga fans. I finally understand the power of her music and how it has inspired so many people.

“Rain on Me”

Lady Gaga was bullied as a child and teenager, these experiences led her to want to be better than those who bullied her were. She and her mother started a foundation for LGBTQ+ youth and others who are bullied called respectively, Born This Way Foundation. Her mother actively runs this organization and Gaga has published a book recently about how kindness can go a long way. She has spoken to millions of young people around the world about how they should embrace their uniqueness and individuality. To not be afraid of who they are.

As a person who grew up different from others, I found Lady Gaga’s music to be healing and truthful. Most of her music lyrics address LGBTQ, individuality, sexuality, self-acceptance/love, criminality, relationships, etc. Gaga is not afraid to challenge society and she accepts the backlash from those who ridicule her. People made fun of me for listening to her (along with all the other reasons, but I do not care anymore. She even dedicated one of her songs to a fan who died by suicide because of his sexual orientation, if that is not the most beautiful tribute to a fan I don’t know what is. Her music was the reason the fan kept living during the midst of being bullied.

With regards to myself and many other “little Monsters”, Gaga has inspired us to choose life even though it’s not always easy. Because being different forces people to take risks, to succeed, and to live the best life possible. I could not ask for a better inspirational role model. I can only aspire to see her in concert, but until then a radio will work.
