Middle School Memories: a Humanistic Poem

Stand out, you’ll be noticed by the right people

Over a decade ago, looking at a long road

Teens’ conflicting thoughts and feelings overflowed

Many have their first kiss at the age of twelve or thirteen

Many teens want to be heard, but are unseen

The struggle to claim identity is rough

Bullying worsens, some decide that it is enough

This generation has been bombarded by social media facades

Everyone begins to try and find a squad

Too young, too young

So many losses that stung

I wish I could tell my 12 year old self to be you, the right people will come in time

Because trying to be like others, is not worth the end of the climb

Middle School has its ups and downs, but in the end it’s a call to reality

For one to decide if they want to choose to embrace their own individuality

Self-actualization: when one live’s life up to their own expectations
